Snapchat for branding purposes

The hot new mobile app to use is Snapchat. I’ll admit, I’m still getting used to snapchat, what it is and how to use it. I know my teenage nieces love it and no longer use anything else. So, for branding purposes, what’s this all about? Snapchat has something like over 6 billion views everyday and it’s all about the now. It’s a photo and video messaging app that allows its users to send photos and videos to friends that only last a brief amount of time. However you can take a screenshot of snaps to save them in picture form. While there are no immediate plans for company profiles, there are now multiple ways to reach people in a one-to-many model, as well as the one-to-one messaging functionality. Also in addition to the core feature of the app which enables users to exchange photos and videos that self-destruct once seen, an added feature is  Stories – a place where users can publish their snaps with the last 24 hours’ worth always being visible.

Here are some tips from an article in Adweek about how to use Snapchat to enhance your brand and build an audience:

  1. Swap Twitter and Facebook avatars for snapcodes – snap codes are QR code like images that are scanned by the app and can be used to create a following.
  2. Hire influencers to do it for you  – hire popular social media stars to build your brand. get people with a big following that know what they are doing and it makes it easier for your brand to amass a following.
  3. Set up a website explainer – Groupon set up a microsite to move its shoppers onto the app. Sometimes your customers just need a step by step explanation.
  4. Cross promote the content – promote your videos elsewhere like Instagram where you already have a large following.
